Description

In Transformer, Lou Reed tells the truth behind the sartorial gestures, innovative stage set-ups, subversive acts and legendary albums that made him one of the most intriguing artists in modern music. Second hand furniture and accessories are not only unique, characterful and nostalgic, but also contribute to a sustainable home. The album “Transformer”, however, can by no means be classified as a case of ‘acoustic bodily harm’.

The sound and style of Transformer would in many ways define Reed's career in the 1970s, and while it led him into a style that proved to be a dead end, you can't deny that Bowie and Ronson gave their hero a new lease on life - and a solid album in the bargain. At the beginning of the ‘90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the reissue policy was fairly straightforward. Transformer' was originally released by RCA Victor and spawned several completely timeless singles, among them were 'Perfect Day', 'Satellite of Love' and 'Walk on the Wild Side'. Is he or isn’t he the Chuck Berry or Sergeant Pepper of the Seventies, or is he deliberately building up an image of himself as an ultra-sensitive Frankenstein, who lived out his neuroses and drug trips in horrific sound? Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source from which to master: CDs, LPs, digital files and even MP3s.The record itself is graded a bit less than excellent, with one or two light surface marks when viewed under normal house lighting. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Considered an influential landmark of the glam rock genre and anchored by Reed’s most successful single, “Walk on the Wild Side” along with “Perfect Day” and “Satellite of Love”.It was described as “A stunning demonstration of technique put at the service of profoundly musical ends. David Bowie counted the former Velvet Underground leader as a major inspiration — and paid back the debt by producing Transformer. Images from throughout the Seventies chronicle Lou's transformations from the unique perspective of a close friend. This production had two British guardian angels to help it on its way, namely David Bowie and Mick Ronson, both of whom obviously knew how to steer Reed’s songwriting qualities into safe waters, without watering down his biting sarcasm and humorous provocation. This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head.

An LP cover may have slight signs of wear, and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation, or cut corner. And that’s why grating guitar rock (“Vicious”) is found alongside a bittersweet, tender ballad (“Perfect Day”) and even an old-time jazz parody (“Goodnight Ladies”) which is sung with a tongue a heavy as lead. Originally released by RCA Records in 1972 Lou Reed’s second solo album Transformer is an album that everyone should own and without a doubt – Essential. They help reduce landfill because, unlike mass-produced non-recyclables, they are high quality in material and craft, and are destined to outlive most other possessions.
