At home, I also like to use my 7x50 in combination with either a giant high powered binocular or my telescope that I have set up on the tripod next to me. The compass display has two modes, either a horizontal scale or a centre mark: these and other functions are accessed through further up/down navigation buttons. All models feature high quality BaK-4 prisms and fully multi-coated optics to ensure the very best contrast and light transmission, essential for good astronomical binoculars.

As I have mentioned earlier, a wide view has many advantages, especially for astronomy making it easier to find objects and scan the skies. So at high powers, it can be hard to locate a particular star or planet because you lose all your reference points around it. Long-eye relief eyepieces and fold-back rubber eyecups for spectacle wearers provide comfort and practicality. As you approach another vessel it will of course get larger, but a fishing boat may take some time before its direction can be identified by the naked eye. The testers liked its grip and light weight and found the optics virtually as good at night as the more expensive DCM model. Images of the Moon in both binoculars displayed excellent contrast and sharpness, and I could detect very little in the way of chromatic aberration in the centre of the field, with lunar craters peppering the southern highlands with impressive clarity.

However, should you want a binocular for stargazing using just your hands and one that you can quickly take out and carry anywhere, then the 50mm size provides a good compromise between portability and light gathering ability. Featuring rubber armoured bodies and fully coated lenses the Classic range is also a lighter weight alternative to most traditional style/size binoculars. Just select Zygo Test Report from the drop down box at the top of the listing and we will test the optics in house and provide a full 2 page report with your scope. You can see the exit pupil by holding the eyepiece about 200mm away from your eye and looking into the lens.

The 10 sets of binoculars tested use Porro prisms (see terminology panel, below) and, with one exception, are of the fixed-focus type which is typical for water-resistant marine binoculars. However, should you also require your 7x50 binoculars for marine use or often go out in the worst weather conditions, you may be better off with a fully o-ring sealed and thus fully waterproof instrument. Fitted with BAK-4 prisms and a high refractive index multi-coating system for excellent clarity and contrast, this instrument offers excellent edge-to-edge definition and impressive colour fidelity. The compact and handy body enable the BRESSER Hunter 7x50 Binoculars to be the perfect companion on just about any outdoor activity. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.

Looking through the binoculars on a wide of daylight terrestrial subjects (landscapes, street views etc. It is generally accepted that the maximum magnification that can be successfully utilised with handheld binoculars on an unsteady platform such as a boat is x7. It enables users wearing glasses to view the entire field of view as the binocular image is projected further out of the exit pupil. In addition, the Topas has an integrated illuminated magnetic compass and a reticle for determining sizes or distances with help of the ring scale on the objective barrel.Distinguishing between the optical performances of the different binoculars is difficult and subjective. So for example, if you are looking for The Pleiades (Seven Sisters) and you know that to find them, you need to look for the constellation of Taurus this is fine and not too difficult with just your eyes. The binoculars come with a wide neck strap and a carrying case for security, portability, and grab-and-go convenience.
