Preserving color and shape: Woolite’s gentle formula helps maintain the original color and shape of your garments, reducing the risk of fading, stretching, or distortion over time. If we had to recommend just one detergent for washing wool, it would be Ecover Delicate Laundry Liquid for Wool & Silk. It’s eco-friendly and cruelty free, and has been approved by the The Woolmark Company as suitable for wool. It also has a lovely waterlily and honeydew scent. No, Woolite is also a good choice for other delicates such as silk, as well as cotton, mixed fabrics and microfibres. This washing detergent works brilliantly on wool, cashmere and any other delicate fabric you’d like to use it with. It is great to have a bottle in the cupboard during the winter period for your woollen wear and in the summer for the rest of your delicates.

There are several DIY methods for washing wool. There are some that swear by using shampoo to wash their wool. However, there is an excellent no-rinse wool wash detergent that many people have had success with. The recipe calls for:Use a clean, damp cloth or sponge to gently work the cleaner into the carpet or upholstery fibers. Be sure to follow the direction of the fibers to avoid damaging them. Once the treated area is dry, vacuum it again to remove any remaining residue and restore the carpet or upholstery fibers. Just looking at the Safely laundry detergent bottle — part of Kris Jenner's cleaning line — tells you it's something different, and once you open the cap and take a sniff, you'll know it's something different. While we haven't yet done our usual battery of stain tests on Safely, so far we are impressed with how it's cleaned the loads of laundry we have done at home. Most noticeable is its amazing scent. "Spring" is a light floral scent with notes of orange, jasmine and geranium with woodsy undertones. It's crisp and natural smelling, not heavy or artificial. And we like that it leaves clothing smelling clean, fresh and oh-so-lightly scented — not overly perfumed — even out of the dryer. Depending on the breed of sheep (like merino), wool can be as soft as cotton and the best performance fabric on the market. It’s also environmentally friendly," explains Jordan Todoroff, the General Manager of merino wool performance apparel company, Ibex. It turns out, wool is not as hard to take care of as it might seem. "Wool is antimicrobial so bacteria doesn't grow on it like it does on other fibers," Todoroff says. "If you sweat and start to smell, it’s actually the sweat that smells, not the shirt. If you hang it up, you won’t be able to smell the odor when it’s dry." In other words, you might not need to wash it after every wear.

While it’s a good idea to wash wool at low temperatures, it’s actually a myth that heat shrinks wool. What does shrink wool is the combination of heat with motion.Warm water may be used to remove stubborn stains from clothing that doesn’t neatly fit in the whites bin. With the use of warm water, you don’t have to worry about shrinking, fading, or harming your garments. If you’re washing new clothes, cold water is best since warm water might cause dye to run during the first few washes. To save delicate fabrics like lace and silk from deteriorating too rapidly, they should be washed on cold and a suitable detergent. Woolite At-Home Dry Cleaner is a convenient and cost-effective alternative to professional dry cleaning for specific garments that require gentle care. Fill a sink, basin or tub with cool or lukewarm water, depending on the care instructions of the garment.

Others use distilled white vinegar. These methods are fairly straightforward. Add a cup of white vinegar to a bowl of warm water or a few drops of shampoo. Ecover has gone to great lengths to ensure this laundry detergent is ideal for wool and silks. It’s approved by The Woolmark Company, a global authority on Merino wool clothing, so your wools and silks will be perfectly happy when washing with this. KnitIQ is one of the few wool cleaners we found that specifically mentions care for knitting projects and crafts in its origin story. The wool wash is worth a gander. With a formula featuring lanolin and coconut oil, you can count on your wool fibers to feel soft and conditioned after you use it.

Gentle and pH-neutral hair shampoos such as baby shampoos can be used to wash wool, so they are a good option if you have one to hand and don’t want to buy a separate wool wash product. For liquid detergent, use the cap to measure the correct amount based on the load size and water hardness. For pods, use one pod for a regular load or two pods for a large or heavily soiled load.

Woolite Baby: Specially formulated for the needs of baby clothing and bedding, Woolite Baby is gentle on delicate baby skin and effective at removing common baby stains, such as formula, spit-up, and diaper leakage. As long as you use it sparingly, washing up liquid is unlikely to ruin wool. In fact, a lot of people use washing up liquid as a cheap alternative to specialised wool wash detergents.Fading can be accelerated by hot water and drying clothes in a dryer. As a result, consider washing dark clothes in cold water and air-drying it. How often to wash dark-colored clothes? In the late 1990s, Woolite sought to extend the same optimal protection and care to all garments and not just fine washables, which inspired the launch of the Woolite Everyday. The Woolite Everyday formula focuses on giving all the clothes you love the right balance of cleaning and caring in the wash cycle, while preventing stretching, shrinking or fading.
