John Sweeney is a true and brave man stepping on all the wrong toes to get the truth out to the listener (or reader) in balanced and sometimes in-your-face content. He does, however, accurately sum up one of Putin’s great vices as “a tolerance of a monstrously corrupt regime”.

While unreservedly condemning his brutal murder I should admit that Nemtsov did not make a similar impression on me. this book is a harrowing, yet extremely intriguing insight into the way the kremlin deals with people who disagree with them. John Sweeney is an award-winning journalist and author, who brings a novel to the layman that truly confirms the Russian powers mindset - "Oderint dum metuant. Sweeney has written 12 books, which includes his best-selling novel set in the war in Burma, Elephant Moon.Sweeney doesn’t spell this out quite as clearly as would have been desirable, but his account of many of the key events in Russia since 1991 is invaluable, enabling readers to see the wood as well as many of the trees. Sweeney's investigation helped to clear their names, and led to Sir Roy Meadow, the expert witness whose testimony had proved decisive in their convictions, being temporarily struck off the General Medical Council's medical register. Rather it is a parade of adventures, told at breakneck pace, full of righteous indignation and an eye for the absurd. Then again, who can blame him if there is an alcohol problem there since he’s been, seen and done it all during his years as a journalist? Killer in the Kremlin is a detailed but easy-to-understand take on the very complicated world of Russian politics. Given his weird conception of Russian history, he naturally didn’t want to go down as a loser, the ruler guilty of losing the last chance for his country to remain at the centre of an Empire. Just a true and distinctly scary account of an idiot full of his own paranoia that somehow, scariest of all, made it to the top of his political field. Description - Killer in the Kremlin: The instant bestseller - a gripping and explosive account of Vladimir Putin's tyranny by John Sweeney An explosive account of Putin's presidency and his long-term ambitions, including first-hand reporting from the invasion of Ukraine. At times he raises accusations with the flimsiest of evidence, nevertheless, there is substantial evidence that Putin has been responsible for the poisoning, murder and extermination of many who he sees as his enemies.VOLODYMYR ZELENSKIY, PRESIDENT OF UKRAINE * 'Words have power, Putin is afraid of the truth, I have always said that. an Emmy Award and a Royal Television Society prize for programs about the Massacre at Krusha e Madhe, Kosovo. I can't complain in the approach he taken; I would have been the same if I was writing a similar volume of work. I must admit that still plowing through John Sweeny's excellent paperback edition "Killer in the Kremlin", so it really a brief review of what I have read.

Sweeney’s polemic largely consists of digging up everything possible that shows Putin in a bad light, which admittedly is not a difficult task, but suggestions that he was simultaneously a paedophile and a womaniser, a supplier of arms to the Baader-Meinhoff gang, a hypochondriac and the richest man in the word are all open to question. Before that he worked at The Observer, covering wars and revolutions in more than sixty countries including Romania, Algeria, Iraq, Chechnya, Burundi, and Bosnia. It gives many detailed examples of his vindictive and controlling methods and how any criticism has put people’s live at risk.It is, instead, a polemic relating not only to Russia’s president but to many other aspects of the politics of Russia and Ukraine. Taught me so much about the reality of the Ukrainian war with Russia and how psychopath Putin tries to control everything and everyone around him, regardless of the cost. As a reporter, first for The Observer, then the BBC Sweeney has covered wars and chaos in more than eighty countries and been undercover to a number of tyrannies including Chechnya, North Korea and Zimbabwe.

I have heard is quoted that authors might do well to read their own books instead of having a narrator do it for them. I minded them less as the book went on, because it became clear that this is a topic that author cares about very much.Despite his extremely unsavoury reputation, Berezovsky was given asylum in London, having become one of Putin’s enemies. Buzzfeed News reports that he left the BBC after 17 years as a veteran journalist after a complaint was filed against him. The author brings nothing new about Putin on his own The book is a thinly veiled hit piece on right of center politicians. I believe that what is happening in eastern Europe is a consequence of Carlyle’s Great Man theory of history.
