The SHP9600’s midrange is nearly identical to that of the SHP9500, and they both remind me quite a bit of the midrange tonality on the HD 600. I had read something a few years ago that claimed Classical actually needs more bass, and now I know why. You’ll get some of those same “out of your head” moments like you previously enjoyed with the 9500, but I do feel like the 9500’s Staging is a bit better overall. It still kind of is now, and you should take additional care when handling these, as they're not big fans of punishment.

I'm not going to get into the Sennheiser veil debate at all, but let's just leave it here that the mids on the Philips are more open than the HD 650.

I didn’t have an official review of the 9600 but wanted to clarify my thoughts about this headphone. The SHP9600 has a more relaxed sound signature when compared to my X3, so it is not best suited for faster and more modern metal. When I put on a pair of relatively inexpensive headphones that aren't the better ones in my collection, I can tell instantly what their sins and flaws are. If I didn't have the HD 650 for my regular drivers, I'd have no problem using these for that purpose.

SHP9600 - Quite disappointed new Headphones Day: Philips SHP9600 - Quite disappointed

They are no longer "F" headphones, but I don't know exactly which drivers they put in there since they have had many revisions over the years. The imaging is mildly below-average, though, as I have a hard time actually telling apart where the instruments are placed at times, and sometimes they aren't separated too well. while i feel the clarity of the voices in the 9600 are better, the bass is just too muddy for me to distinguish the drums to the actual bass instrument. The mids aren’t really recessed to begin with on these three as 9500 is a neutral bright so mids fall on neutrality, 9600 is warm with mids falling still on neutrality but with a cut to the low treble and balanced out highs, and x2hr is warm with mids on neutrality but the brightness peaks a little. Amp/DACS Used: FiiO K3/E10K, FiiO BTR3K, FiiO K5 Pro, iFi Zen/V2, iFi Zen DAC Signature + Zen CAN (HIFIMAN), many more.

I’m glad Philips didn’t butcher the headphones with an overly accentuated low end, so don’t get me wrong. The first number of the IP rating refers to protection against dust, while the second number refers to protection against liquid. Not enough to matter a lot, unfortunately, but they don't have the same "they only sit on your ears through the power of God" vibe as the 9500s.Whether I listened to the SHP9600 directly plugged into my PC’s motherboard’s on-board audio or powered them with a discrete headphone amplifier like the JDS Labs Element II, I thought they sounded great and never felt like they showcased any of the issues I would find when underpowering a headphone; which makes them a great option for those don’t currently own a headphone amplifier.

Philips Over Ear Headphones/Wired Headphones ideal for Laptop

A few things that came to mind as I began to think back to when I first bought it in August of 2020. The 95s soundstage feels far more open, and they take EQ really well so you can fix some of the thinness they suffer from. I guess out of what I use most, the rank would be the following: HD600 > Monitor80 > K702 > 9500 > Arya > DEVA > 400se > K240M. The bass has gotten a bit of an uptick since the SHP9500, but it’s just enough to make itself known and not overwhelm. With the assembly being similar, these are quite light and comfortable to wear over long periods, no thanks to the material of the pads (they used to snag on my facial hair though, when I still had that), but they also still feel quite rickety.

The padding is a cloth material with memory foam on the inside, and while they can wear down over time, I feel like it happens much more gradually than with something like velour. Both headphones share very similar tonal characteristics, but as we will discuss shortly, the SHP9600 brings about some fairly noticeable tuning changes–and, for the most part, I think that they are for the better. They’ve got a metal bridge but otherwise most the frame is plastic and is susceptible to snapping if enough pressure is applied. com helping YOU make sound decisions, leading to a beautiful audio experience that will make you fall in love with music . Particularly after using EQ, I find that the treble on the SHP9600 is very well-textured, and it delivers a very clean image of the tonal nuances in the highs.
