The sides of the boots come to mid-ankle and initially I was worried that there was a slight rub on one of my outside ankle bones, but this disappeared with some tighter lacing of the top of the boot. First thing to say is that living on a very tight budget, this felt like a big decision for me. My key requirements were comfort, having dry feet and very importantly, good grip. My Keens were wearing quite flat and on muddy hills were spectacularly useless, but the slippery experiences did provide an interesting added adrenaline rush and much hilarity/hysteria as I learnt to mud-surf.
