Es más como un libro de "qué pasaría si": ¿y si una civilización alienígena pudiera desarrollarse en un entorno tan diferente? I won't spoil the story by saying, but this is one of the most thought inspiring sci-fi novels I've read in a long time. In Sand Marble Rally 2016, Dragon's Egg was fighting for the championship and was only 2 points behind championship leader Ghost Plasma after 6 races. In 54 AC, Lady Elissa Farman stole three dragon eggs from the Dragonstone hatcheries and fled with them to Pentos, from where she traveled to Braavos.

The news about the theft was alarming to King Jaehaerys; if the eggs were to hatch, there would be a dragonlord in the world that was not of House Targaryen. RLF really nailed the time compression scenario in this book and the rest of the science in Dragon's Egg seems fairly legit.Every sentence is short and simple (unless it's detailing a scientific concept), to the point where I felt the need to check to make sure this wasn't meant to be a book for young children. The gravity on a neutron star is utterly crushing, the surface temperature is about 8,000 degrees and the radiation could fry a human being from about 50 light years away. Dragon eggs were placed in the cradles of Prince Aegon the Younger, Prince Viserys, Prince Jaehaerys, Princess Jaehaera, and Prince Maelor Targaryen. Funnily enough, if taken as metaphor, the stuff about the gods wanting to communicate with them aren't that wrong, since at that point the humans are about to initiate first contact.

Despite all of these complications, Robert Forward somehow manages to make this a Hard Sci-Fi story, and for that I give him 5 million (neutron) stars. Read about the lives, struggles and triumphs and the Cheela live their lives (millions of times faster than humans live - I think an hour or two in human time was a whole generation of Cheela lives.Justified up to a point, because the arrival of humans is explicitly said to have kickstarted the Cheela civilization: suddenly some "stars" are moving, so Cheela astrologists invent a writing system to keep track of them, which gets adopted by the general population, etc.
