About this deal

The quality of MP3 download just isn't up to scrutiny once you play this piece on a decent audio system, so the re-mastered CD looked the way to go. Beautifully crafted debut album from one of the leading lights of the (relatively) short-lived progressive rock revival of the 1980s. Script for a Jester's Tear was a commercial success, reaching number 7 in the United Kingdom and spending 31 weeks on the charts, the second-longest album chart residency for Marillion.

The band's 3rd album 'Misplaced Childhood' is, possibly, the most easily accessible of Marillion's early releases and is certainly worth checking out as well. Allerdings muss man sagen, dass man "Script for a jester's tear" nicht einfach "nebenbei" hören kann. Discs Three and Four feature the previously unreleased show from the Marquee Club, London on the 29th December 1982. This was Mick Pointers' only Album recording as he was eventually replaced by Ian Moseley for the second album Fugazi. This is in no small part to the presence on the kit of Pointer who lacked his successors drive and strong rhythmic ability. EMI took advantage of the opportunity and persuaded the group to replace him with Nick Tauber, a producer known for his work with new wave band Toyah and regarded by the record label as more modern. However, he was seriously injured in a car accident when he drove home after completing work on the single. Elsewhere, loss of another kind is explored in "Chelsea Monday"; Fish commendably vents his spleen at the establishment in "Forgotten Sons"--a crowd-stopping finale to Marillion's live show in those days--and pokes wordy fun at the toffs in the band's first and most unlikely hit, "Garden Party". The second single, " Garden Party", was released on 6 June 1983 and became even more popular, peaking at number 16.

Script for a Jester's Tear is the only studio album by Marillion to feature the band's original drummer and founding member Mick Pointer, who was dismissed following the album's UK tour. I have to admit I did not follow the band after Fish left because for me, Marillion became a more commercial Indy band, but I do respect they have still gone on to have an admirable career but this record for me will always have a corner of my musical heart, as I explored the music as I matured.

Neither "Market Square Heroes", nor the B-sides of the 12" single, "Three Boats Down from the Candy" and the 17-minute-long epic "Grendel", were included on Script for a Jester's Tear, although a short radio segment of the A-side can be briefly heard prior to "Forgotten Sons". This album features some of early Marillion's finest moments: every track is a stand out with my particular favourite being the haunting "Chelsea Monday" which has very strong contrasting light and shade through superlative musicianship. A new 180g heavy weight vinyl edition featuring a gatefold sleeve and the original artwork was released in 2012.

The album reached number seven and spent 31 weeks in the UK Albums Chart, eventually achieving a platinum certificate, and produced the Top 40 single " He Knows You Know" and the Top 20 single " Garden Party". In the United States, however, it failed to make any impact, peaking at number 175 on the Billboard 200 chart. It's an astonishingly confident debut destined never to be bettered, but thankfully now given a remastered new life, with extensive notes from all involved in the booklet plus earlier material and demos collected on disc two.Mi piacciono i Marillion con Fish, non sono un vecchietto, ma uno che è appassionato di genesis, yes pink floyd, led Zeppelin e tutta la musica Rock anni 67 70 80.
