About this deal

A little girl playing with her train set just before bed enters an adventure in her dreams, taking her toy dog on a long train journey.

It is one of my favourites for this age range, follow the journey of a boy and his dog, travelling across the globe on their train, picking up animals on the way. But soon all sorts of endangered animals are asking if they can jump up and join them on their journey. I think there is also a little darkness to the pictures, which is suited to the underlying tone of the book. With a train full of animals, the journey continues until the boy realises that he has to get home for, as he says, 'I have to get to school in the morning.

On the journey, a variety of animals ask to get on the train – each one is initially refused, but they all have a reason to get on, so they’re allowed.

Children are only as encouraged and excited as we are about the books we pick to expand their young minds to considering so many possibilities. It is not included in promotions available to our main range products, as stated in our terms of service. If your child has a toy train or suitable construction set and small figures they can use these to tell the story. I love the way Burningham has combined his usual illustration style (and there's undoubtedly a word for it (that I don't know) to explain the 'childish' drawings) with some fabulous full page pictures of the train and the places they travel through, in a very different style.Get off our Train (Jonathan Cape, 1989) and various books for adults England (Jonathan Cape, 1992); France (Jonathan Cape, 1998); The Time of Your Life (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2002) and When We Were Young (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2004).

Inspired by Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush, this book takes readers on a rhyme-filled, action-packed journey across the planet. There were some really powerful environmental issues within the story with the animals being endangered and the children used speaking and listening tasks to think about these issues.A young boy enjoys playing with his train set but as it gets late his mother sends him to bed and takes him his doggy pyjama case to keep him company. We enjoyed it and it is very good to use for all years in Primary as you could adapt your lessons to their age and understanding.

We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child. John Burningham has since written and illustrated over thirty picture books, that have been translated and distributed all over the world. She demands it be read to her whenever it is brought round and I even brought a copy for my friends little girls, who now tell me repeatedly to 'OI! He tells the elephant to get off the train, but the elephant begs him to let him stay due to a human trying to take his tusks.
