About this deal

He wrote that he believed he had found “The Raven King” in an archeological dig, and wanted her to come give a second opinion on the bones. It is with a sense of relief that Ruth discovers Nelson and Michelle are using up Nelson's annual holiday allowance visiting his family when she realises what Dan seems to have stumbled across. Ruth is, of course, keen to go, not only because this would be a fascinating mission, but because the bones were discovered by a long-ago UCL friend, Dan Golding.

The recurring characters have all gone on holiday in this book, following a mysterious murder in the North West. Clare Corbett is irritating right from the beginning but when she starts to do the "voices" of the various characters she becomes unbearable.

In Edgar winner Griffiths's intricate sixth Brighton mystery (after 2019's Now You See Them), police constable Meg Connolly, Det.

Ruth is a forensic archaeologist and gets involved with looking at newly discovered old bones - of course, her investigations always seem to get tied up with current mysteries at the same time.I found it so disturbing that it almost ruined a wonderful fun book for me as it was actually unpleasant and jarring.

He and Ruth had a mild flirtation in a previous book, but nothing came out of it because Ruth’s and his own situations were complicated. It is a welcome change and gives the author the opportunity to present the characters and their relationships in a different way. Our main character is a 42 year old forensic anthropologist who, lives with her almost 2 year old daughter and a cat out on the marshes in splendid isolation. San Jose Mercury-News "Both plot strands make compelling reading, but the way Griffiths interweaves them is absolutely masterful. Michelle on the other hand I can't stand with no apparent reason but maybe she strucks out as a bit pretentious for my taste or because Nelson mostly mentions that she is good looking but says not much good about her personality!I especially liked the cast of supporting characters, and there are plenty of red herrings as the book moves very fast towards a really terrifying climax - as usual I didn't guess "whodunit" - oh well, maybe in the next one (already on my Kindle! But Cathbad too has grown into someone of great depth, despite his continued bizarre pronouncements of feeling the spirits and such, with his own tragedy and story yet-to-be-told. This serendipity does not impress Harry's wife and I wonder if Griffiths is setting up a permanent rift between them. Beyond Ruth's fence, the long grass is tawny and gold with the occasional flash of dark blue water as the marsh leads out to the sea. Who, but Nelson, would see plastic meats laid out in a kitchen display at a National Trust property and think of an autopsy?
