About this deal

then we have alice who thinks they both hate one another when in reality henry never hated her AHH I LOVED THAT SCENE WHEN HE ADMITTED IT BYE. Chanel was also a great character, she was so nice and friendly and seems like she would make a great friend, but none of these characters are real which pains me to type out. i committed the unforgivable crime of going in with way too high expectations so now i’m kinda disappointed 😭 rtc! The plot itself was also exciting; I truly could not put this book down and finished it in one sitting. this book was just so cute and fun that i am willing to ignore all flaws and plotholes because this book was written for me.

i 100% wasn’t expecting the commentary on racism and classism, but it is something that should always be talked about when it’s appropriate, and it was woven into the story so well. you think that just because you're all smart and wealthy and attractive you can just do whatever the hell you want-" "wait. even the author's deep affection and admiration for her parents shine through in this book, evident in the unwavering dedication and heartfelt portrayal. even by the end, i felt like the romance was a little underdeveloped 😭 their relationship hardly got anywhere; we hardly get to see them talk about it. The American Dream usually means making something out of yourself from nothing, but this doesn’t necessarily have to happen in America.and as she glares at him, cheeks pink, glowing with perfect rage, he can admit to himself: this is why he must win. Even a bit of added insight from the aunt would have helped enrich the mythos of Alice’s invisibility; instead, it exists mostly as just a convenient plot tool. and when his gaze slides to me, i know with a rush like gravity that i can't be invisible, because he sees me.

I can’t recommend If You Could See the Sun enough, especially if you’re in the market for a book centered on family sacrifice and dreams with a rivals-to-lovers romance! Alice is a really realistic main character, and I relate to her with all of the worrying about your academics and all of that, and I love that she wasn't perfect, which makes her incredibly relatable. the bonus chapters are to die for we see a lot of henry’s feelings for alice and i was blushing and kicking my feet and screaming into my pillow because it was all so. now i am convinced that this book was written by me because funfact my bf and i had, almost the exact same dynamic, as henry and alice. The concept of this book was so fun and entertaining but considered some really heavy topics as well, especially as money was such a huge part of the story. After another ceremony where Alice is celebrated for her grades, she has to share the spotlight again with none other than her ridiculously handsome nemesis, Henry Li. As a successful student/ study machine of Airington College, Alice can only get partial scholarship and she finds out her family cannot afford the rest of her tuition. We are blessed with Never Have I Ever type academic rivals to lovers (one sided hate >>>) and Rory Gilmore academic validation. As the only scholarship student at Airington Boarding School, Alice Sun has to be one of the top students. I liked the setting, the morally grey heroine (blackmailing your fellow students for fun and profit?

her relationship with her parents made me emotional at some points, i related to her so much, she wants so much for herself and her family but just can't get it. she started off as a person who relied on others to feel worthy but then became someone who dares to dream and hope for what she wants and it was so beautiful. there was a time in hs when i also broke down in front of a history/social studies teacher because i thought i did bad on a test. She doesn’t even necessarily know what she wants to do other than be successful; however, she’s so driven in everything that she does (see: monetizing a confusing and random power) that she’ll be okay in whatever she does, something other characters have to help her see. I loved their banter and their scenes together, especially as Alice gradually realizes that Henry isn’t a bad person.
