About this deal

What certainly makes The Summer of Broken Rules stand out from other typical, summery YA contemporary books, it’s the Assassin game. Mentioning a little black dress does not a Taylor Swift novel make 😭 You DARE compare this lukewarm instalove relationship to The Other Side of the Door? Meredith meets Wit and, while their first encounter certainly isn’t the meet cute you’d expect, the rest of their relationship pretty much goes smoothly, their feelings catching on really, really fast. In the case of this book, they became friends faster than expected, and not just that, but they were CLOSE friends. That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis.

You open it and you’re suddenly transported into this summery, wonderfully warm setting and you don’t ever want to leave it.Sex happens but is not described in detail, there are some good examples of asking and giving consent, and condom use is implied.

Her family has a tradition of playing the ultimate game of Assassin every summer, and this year it will take place during the week of wedding festivities. claire; even though she wasn’t in the book the way meredith and her family think and talk about her is so beautiful, you can understand how an incredible person she was. And to make matters even worse, a fortnight before leaving for the wedding, her boyfriend of the longest time dumps her, thus making her go alone. I do not say that often, but they were literally all over each other and I just wanted to get back to the game of Assassin, because I didn't care one bit about them. If you have to (or just like to) listen to music while reading like I do, I am so happy you will get to experience this treat while reading, it's like pairing the perfect wine to go with each course of a long, fancy schmancy, DELICIOUS, meal! And as the week progresses, she realizes she’s not only at risk of losing the game, but also her heart. What I loved above all else was the MOST AMAZING summer vacation game – truly, I’m not exaggerating. The setting in this book was described absolutely beautifully and it was one of my favorite things about it.

About the book: Meredith Fox has been going to Martha’s Vineyard for the summer as long as she can remember. But when she forms an alliance with a cute groomsman, she's at risk of losing both the game … and her heart. The lovely romance, big, beautiful family and all of the summer feels won me over and I can’t WAIT to read more from this author. at first they were just kinda teammates in the assasin game and were just “messing” around with each other, but then the feelings appeared and bluh bluh bluh. Not sure about the title of the book, but the author’s previous novel and the characters are apparently mentioned in little easter eggs in this one.let me tell you, everyone is SO dramatic about this game that when someone is eliminated they take videos of it and make fun of the eliminated person, literally start debates if that kill can be counted according to rules… they are literally scared to go outside bc they are afraid to be eliminated. Wit was cute I guess but they only knew each other for five days and he’s like he come travel the world with me? children hiding pies from a golden retriever, grown up men splashing water to teenagers and making videos of it, to ‘kill’ the next target people ruining wedding events, everyone yelling/hiding/running/laughing, the ambition to win, the passion of game, how everyone loves each other. but throughout the book she starts to understand that there are more than one way for every situation. Assassin game theme: this smart game settling bring back the entire family who are still mourning of losing their daughter, suffering from unresolved issues.
