About this deal

Firmware that I use for my Artillery Genius (more or less same as Waggster but on Marlin 1.x and with my own personal tweaks) However, the Artillery Genius has a few minor downsides, all to be expected at this price point. First, the unit is huge and may feel bulky for some people. Also, keep in mind that there is no automatic bed leveling. But perhaps the clincher here is the fast-heating hotbed. It takes slightly above two minutes for this printer to reach maximum bed temperature, something that expands your filament options massively. Customer Service The Artillery Genius feels a bit bulky, to be honest with you, but this does not typically affect its operation. The printer delivers commendable print quality. Yes, in some objects, a little finishing is needed. In some cases, you don’t get the finest details in print. But these issues can be improved by slightly tweaking the slicer settings. Of course, I can’t test a profile without printing a 3D Benchy. Unfortunately, this one suffers from a bit of under extrusion and a few small details are not printed (on the front holes). It was printed while tuning the profiles, so the issues are gone now.

It’s tuned for PLA and can be used out of the box with this material. Nozzle temperature is set to 195C and bed temperature is set to 60C. There is some controversy regarding the benefit of adding a bed probe like the BLTouch or clones. The bed on the Genius is rather small and leveling it is easy enough so that it does not really require a leveling probe. On the Sidewinder on the other hand it makes more sense as the bed is biger. It also makes sense to add one if you are using different printing surfaces like magnetic PEI sheets on top of your bed and keep swapping between them. The Artillery Genius ships pre-assembled. So, it’s easy to assume that there isn’t a lot left in the box. Well, it is true, but there are still a few things in there you should be aware of. But before we get to the list, it is important to note that the Artillery Genius ships in a sturdy cardboard box with heavy foam padding inside. Everywhere in the box has a layer of foam. The manufacturer also adds additional straps all-round for safety. It’s not hard to see why – a fully assembled printer is delicate and susceptible to many risks while on transit. Adding that extra bit of padding protects it substantially.Changing the default PTFE lined heatbreak with an all metal one will allow you to use extruder temperatures above the 240C recomended for the one that comes with the printer. This will grant access to printing more specialized materials but could create issues for the more basic ones like PLA. In my experience of about 6 weeks since I upgraded to an all metal heatbreak I did not experiece such issues but I guess it’s too early to tell. Build an enclosure Fear not, there is a much better way of doing things! Get yourself a Raspberry PI and install OctoPrint. Both Prusa Slicer and Ultimaker Cura can connect remotely to the OctoPrint server and be used for printing. The Cura plugin even allows you to monitor the webcam (if you have one on your PI) and control your printer. If you followed the steps, now your IdeaMaker profile for Sidewinder X1 should be loaded and you can slice your first model. Print Quality with the IdeaMaker profiles The build plate of the Genius Pro printer is made with tempered glass and ceramic. This glass has a high hardness to prevent models from warping. The print bed is designed to heat up fast. The AC-powered print bed can reach up to 70 C in just two minutes and up to 120 C after 60 seconds. One of the downsides of Genius Pro is that its print bed does not heat up evenly. Hopefully, the new Ender 3 V2 will come with a newer 32 bit CPU. They advertise the new board as silent, so it will probably use newer TMC stepper drivers like the TMC2208.

There’s also a BLTouch connector if you want to add auto-leveling capabilities to the Artillery Genius. Considering that the heatbed is 220mm x 220mm in size, a BLTouch is not really needed. I manually leveled the bed when I first assembled the printer, and the first layer was consistent for the rest of my prints. Chances of receiving a bowed heatbed is low (compared to the Sidewinder X1). Nozzle quality is bad The manufacturer also includes innovative cable management all round to ensure you get that clean and neat look Ender 3 V2 vs Artillery Genius – Conclusions Ender 3 V2 Creality Extruder vs Artillery Genius Titan Clone Well, that will be the focus of our review today. We will begin by looking at the technical specifications of this printer, proceed to a list of its features, and give you the pros and cons you need to know. There will also be more information on setting up the unit and details about printer quality and customer support. Technical Specs With the Genius Pro, manual levelling of the print bed is no longer necessary, the 3D printer does it easily by itself, which avoids levelling errors and saves a lot of time.

I recommend using digant’s version because it’s updated and works a lot better than my version. How to install custom screen firmware on Artillery Sidewinder X1

To make the Artillery Genius even more stable and make the carriage move along a single axis without wiggles and twists, you can upgrade it with a linear rail. The high-quality broadband power supply is underpinned by sophisticated technologies and a stable power supply. The simple switching between 100-240V voltage range is applicable for most countries and regions of the world, which offers remarkable comfort and safety. Besides, the heat bed of the Artillery Genius features impressive heating speed and can reach 110°C in less than 135 seconds. Considering the dimensions of the build plate, the heating speed is pretty fast. Also, it’s a bit harder to edit and customize, compared to the good-old 12864 Full Graphics display we all love. Board Selection – 8 bit vs 32 bit.

We are happy to answer questions and offer general advice, however should a warranty issue arise with the printer, Artillery will provide support as required.

Problems and Troubleshooting

A large LCD colored touch screen display is also included to ensure you have all printer controls in one place There is no need for extra cooling of the printer’s electronics as the temperature inside does not go over 40C which is fine as most components start having issues only above 50C. But, just to be safe you can drill a hole in the bottom table where the printer’s case fan is just to make sure it’s got enough room to vent. Upgrade your firmware This is a true statement, but with a Bowden setup, it’s harder to control oozing and stringing. Besides that, retraction values are a lot higher compared to a Direct Drive. The Artillery Genius is also fitted with an ultra-quiet stepper driver for a smooth and noiseless printing experience
