About this deal

Despite this optically advantageous design, however, light loss caused by both mirrors and the secondary mirror’s obstruction in the 76AZ results in it having no better performance in light gathering or resolving power than a puny 60mm refractor; yet even still, it presents several advantages over one, including no chromatic aberration and its shorter focal length that allows for a wider field of view and lower power viewing with given eyepieces. In addition to these benefits, collimation of the AstroMaster 76AZ is easy because of its long focal ratio, though you will have to provide your own tools since none are included with the scope. The Celestron AstroMaster AZ telescopes all use the same mount, which shares much of its design with the EQ versions’ CG-3 mount and tripod, the only difference being the design of the mount head. It attaches to the LT 76AZ optical tube and other tubes with a standard Vixen-style dovetail saddle. The parts are a mix of cheap, fragile metal alloy castings and a huge amount of plastic parts, even in crucial places like the fasteners and clamps for the tripod legs.

The Orion SpaceProbe II 76EQ features the same optics and performance as the AstroMaster LT 76AZ but a decent (albeit still not ideal) mount at a slightly lower price too. Features: Celestron PowerSeeker 76AZ Newtonian Telescope• Affordable telescope for beginning astronomer; portable yet powerful The Sky-Watcher Heritage 150P has double the aperture of the AstroMaster LT 76AZ with vastly superior light-gathering and resolving power, as well as an easy-to-use tabletop Dobsonian mount, collapsible tube for portability, and quality included accessories. The good news is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a reasonable telescope that will keep them interested, and this telescope is one of those. The Celestron Powerseeker 70AZ

Manual

If you live in a place with a brightly lit sky (City) then even simply finding a MUCH darker sky somewhere where there are much smaller populations, will make an ENORMOUS difference to the amount of things you see and how well you see them. And to some extent using Light Pollution filters can help.

Speaking of the diagonal, the Celestron Powerseeker 70AZ comes with one made of plastic and a little unusual. Where most diagonals are angled the one included with the Celestron Powerseeker 70AZ is more of a ball shape with two tubes coming out. It also seems to be much more enclosed than a standard diagonal which should help keep dust, dirt and dew out of it over time. I am not really a fan of the finder but it serves it’s purpose fairly well. Like all finders, be sure you set it up during the day using a far away object such as the top of a telephone pole, water tower antenna, etc. Once it is adjusted it is acceptable. Of course, no telescope in this price range has a good finder because that would take money away from making the actual telescope better and we do not want that. You can do without a finder, but a terrible quality main telescope will just make the whole thing a waste of money, and the Celestron Powerseeker 70AZ is certainly not a waste. Final thoughts Not compatible with #93648 Off-Axis Guider, not compatible with #93519 2" Mirror Diagonal (discontinued) Then again you’d be hard pressed to find solid optics within this price range anyways. Alternative Products

The current model of the Celestron Powerseeker 70AZ comes with an adequate 5x24mm finder scope (just barely), a 20mm eyepiece, a 4mm eyepiece (useless) and a 3x barlow (also useless).

From there it is a mixed bag with objects such as the Pleadies being easy to see and pretty spectacular, The Lagoon and Eagle nebulae are quite pleasing but require a bit more effort, while the Ring and Dumbbell nebulae are virtually impossible to get any enjoyment out of with the Celestron Powerseeker 70AZ beyond finding them. The 76AZ comes with 2 1.25″ kellner eyepieces at focal lengths at 20mm and 10mm, a built-on starpointer red dot finderscope, a tripod, a Manual Alt Azimuth mount and a bunch of other documents. You have probably noticed that the stars move slowly across the field of view in your "low magnification" 20mm eyepiece, and they will move commensurately faster in higher magnification eyepieces. Some of us buy "Equatorial mounts" for existing "Optical Tube Assemblies" (your telescope tube) to cancel out this apparent motion of the stars so that the object stays centered in the eyepiece even at the highest magnifications.

Also point your scope at "orion" and in the region below "orions belt" (called orions sword), you should be able to see the nebula?
