About this deal

Over the past two decades, they have created a model of sustainability, restored the health of the forests and fostered a return of many animal, plant, insect and bird species, including the Scarlet Macaw. These doves are believed to be common, and their range seems to be expanding. Their need for open habitats means they have adapted well to deforested and agricultural areas. They also adapt well to towns and cities. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve was founded in 1972. It covers more than 7,400 acres of land and within its massive trees, lush plant life, crystal clear streams you’ll find over 2.5% of the entire world’s biodiversity. Forest that exists at over 1440 m. (4724 ft.) is considered Cloud Forest. The name “Cloud Forest” is quite literal. At any moment in time, Monteverde becomes immersed in dense, low-hanging clouds, hovering over the canopy. The result is a mystical, magical feel. The incredibly diverse plant life; ferns, bromeliads, orchids, lichens and vines drip with condensation and thrive in this rich environment. Casa Corcovado is a leading example of responsible tourism. The lodge has been designed and constructed in a manner that minimizes the impact on the environment and prides itself on adhering to green and sustainable principles in every aspect of the day-to-day operations.

Don’t bother listening for them, as Brown Pelicans are mostly silent creatures. However, you may hear loud popping sounds when they defend their nests, which are made from them snapping their bills together sharply. Tanagers are a favorite of bird watchers and photographers. Not just for their often brilliant and dazzling plumage, but because many species favor feeders, making them easy to see and photograph. 1- Blue-Gray Tanager Along with exploring the trails surrounding the lodge, birders and bird photographers can take advantage of the excellent location of the lodge. The garden also boasts the second largest collection of palms in the world. Particularly well represented groups include ferns, aroids, bromeliads, gingers, heliconias, marantas, and of course palms. Although Costa Rica is a small country, it is in the bird-rich neotropical region and has a huge number of species for its area. The official bird list published by the Costa Rican Rare Birds and Records Committee of the Asociación Ornitológica de Costa Rica (AOCR) contained 948 species as of July 2023. [1]Each room features a private bath, hot water showers, air conditioning, 2 full size beds or 1 king bed, and television. The eleven comfortable and elegant rooms, some of which are newly refurbished, each have their own character and individuality. All rooms are en suite, with showers or baths and some can accommodate families of up to four people. Jacques Cousteau famously called Corcovado National Park the most bio-diverse place on the planet. With pristine primary forest, undisturbed, and very remote, birds and animals flourish in over 424 square kms (164 sq. mi) of dense tropical rainforest. Corcovado offers three accessible ranger stations (La Leona, San Pedrillo and Sirena) plus Cano Island (for snorkeling, diving, and pelagic birding). The New World vultures are not closely related to Old World vultures, but superficially resemble them because of convergent evolution. Like the Old World vultures, they are scavengers. However, unlike Old World vultures, which find carcasses by sight, New World vultures have a good sense of smell with which they locate carrion. Hacienda La Ensenada is a National Wildlife Refuge located in the province of Puntarenas, on the Gulf of Nicoya. It’s just 2.5 hours from San José and 1.5 hours from Liberia. It is an ideal place for naturalists, bird watchers, and nature lovers.

There are chapters explaining the habitats available and the typical birds that can be seen. Costa Rica has benefitted from a number of species splits in recent years, and potentially there are many more to come. Two obvious examples are the Clapper Rail and the Nutting’s Flycatcher, which are both likely to be different species. This is a particular study area for Steve Howell and Dale Dyer, and in an appendix, they outline the potential splits to look out for. With a prime location on the edge of Corcovado National Park, offering deluxe accommodations, exciting activities and some of the very best Costa Rica bird watching, Casa Corcovado Lodge is a must for nature lovers and bird watchers. If you are looking for an authentic, remote and unforgettable vacation experience in Costa Rica, you will find it at Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge. Set above a palm-fringed beach, in tropical gardens surrounded by 170 acres of pristine rainforest, this much-loved destination is the ultimate combination of comfort and adventure.Once you know what to look for, it’s easy to spot these vultures while they are flying. Look for a large raptor soaring in the sky making wobbly circles, whose wings are raised high enough to look like the letter “V.” It’s thought that this flying style helps them glide at low altitudes, which keeps them close to the ground to smell for food. The Vermilion Flycatcher’s genus name, Pyrocephalus, literally translates to “fire-headed.” And one look at a male of this species will tell you why! Its striking red color comes from its insect diet, which contains a chemical that turns its plumage bright red. Motmots have two hanging tail feathers that are very fragile and have been known to fall off easily. Costa Rica's geological formation played a large role in the diversification of avian species. North America and South America were initially separate continents, but millions of years of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions eventually fused the two continents together. When this happened, species from the north and south poured into the land bridge that became Central America. Birds like the hummingbird came from the south, while birds like the jay came from the north. [3]
