If you’ve felt like an outsider for most of your life, you are almost certainly a highly sensitive and spiritually receptive person. For example, one attachment style might make it hard for you to open up to others, while another might lead you to feel particularly sensitive to criticism. It's important that we learn to think of being a lone wolf as a good thing. Many indigenous cultures, such as those in Africa and Australia, actually encourage the younger members to go out alone in the wilderness to find themselves as a rite of passage. Without accepting that isolation is part of experiencing true connectedness, we get lost very easily. The film is an adaptation of the 1967 novel of the same name by S. E. Hinton and was released on March 25, 1983, in the United States. Jo Ellen Misakian, a librarian at Lone Star Elementary School in Fresno, California, and her students were responsible for inspiring Coppola to make the film. [1] The oh-so-embarrassing agonies of becoming an adult during adolescence can separate us from our peers, with such feelings generating a potential ‘identity crisis’ that can remain unresolved throughout adulthood. Interestingly, the timing of puberty’s onset can be an important factor, with those both early and late – compared to their peers – generating feelings of isolation and, potentially, deviant behaviour that can force us further towards society’s fringes. Interestingly, it’s early-onset girls that are most in danger of non-normative responses, followed by late onset boys. A newspaper used to show a story about the three greasers saving the kids in The Outsiders includes a real story from 1982 regarding the death of a man hit by a train in Boston. [14] Coppola's craving for realism almost led to disaster during the church-burning scene. He pressed for "more fire", and the small, controlled blaze accidentally triggered a much larger, uncontrolled fire, which a downpour doused.
