About this deal

An Achilles Ridgerunner is built for speed as well as durability, and is a vital reinforcement for a Genestealer Cult in a fight. I tried something new out here – this base topper is made with liquid sculpey. This was a bit more pricey than using standard sculpey, but it just needed to be baked at 275 for 15 minutes. I find it really useful to paint the heads as a separate subassembly, it really helps to get the faces right if you have 360 degree access to them, rather than struggling to paint them when they’re surrounded by a high collar. For the characters, I kept the same elements but reconfigured. The Primus is obviously quite similar to the Cultists, but the Magus trades some of the blue for his rich purple robes.

For the ridged sections between any carapace plates, basecoat with Xereus Purple and shade with Druchii Violet This week’s Hammer of Math heads outside of the hives and examines exactly how difficult it really is to kill these vehicles. Let’s start out with targeting the Redemptor: toughness 7, 3+ save with -1 damage. For both weapons we will examine the unbuffed baseline, +1 to hit via Crossfire, and +1 to hit with +1 to wound with Crossfire plus Exposed bonuses. For the flesh of the arms on more mutated hybrids, where the purple fades into blue, wet blend the Genstealer Flesh Mix with Night Lords Blue. Alternatively, glaze Night Lords Blue down the arm, increasing in intensity towards the hands. If you set up this unit in ambush, place an ambush marker anywhere on the battlefield that is wholly within your deployment zone. Many Ridgerunner crews include a spotter equipped with magnoculars, whose task it is to identify and relay enemy troop movements and weak points in the opposition's defence. x73 plastic components that make one Achilles Ridgerunner armed with two heavy stubbers, and a choice of either a heavy mining laser, a heavy mortar, or a missile launcher. It also comes with a host of other options and optional wargear.

White Armour: – Wash with Apothecary White, keep an eye out for pooling in the crevices and draw it away before it sets too much. – Soft Drybrush VGC Ghost Grey with a round-tipped makeup brush. – Edge Highlight the most raised parts of the armour with White Scar. Units set up in ambush are considered to be set up on the battlefield (unless they are embarked within a TRANSPORT model that is set up in ambush), even though their models are not actually on the battlefield. Enemy models cannot be set up or moved within 9" of the centre of any of your ambush markers.

Shiny and Chrome

If you have the first turn, you must reveal all of your ambush markers at the start of your Command phase.

For the human skin highlight the colours are basically just moving left to right from darkest to lightest of this trio of paints. The darker skin is a couple of thin coats of Knight-Questor, then for the last highlight mixing in a touch of Cadian. The medium skin tone started with Cadian followed by mixing in a bit of Kislev for the final highlight of the medium tone. Then I reused that Cadian/Kislev mix for the initial highlight of the lightest tone that was then finished off with kislev. The hybrid skin is a couple of thin coats of Ushabti over the base coat, you can push it a touch further with screaming skull if you want. Decorative Metal (Icons, Leaders’ Weapons): – Base with Balthasar Gold. – Wash with Agrax Earthshade. – Drybrush with Hashut Copper. – Lightly Drybrush with Sycorax Bronze, focused on the edges.

For crew members, use Rakarth Flesh for a natural look. Enhance interior details with Mournfang Brown for contrasts. The solution was to take a pressmold of a Zone Mortalis tile and make my own base topper. I started with two part silicone putty. This size of mold will use a decent chunk of a box, but the mold should hold up for quite a while! Press the putty into the surface and wait about 90 minutes to demold something this size. With the Genestealer Cult codex fresh on the scene, one of my favorite units in the codex has gotten more interesting: The Ridgerunner! It has two juicy options: the Heavy Mining Laser (HML) and the Achilles Missile Launcher (AML). The question that comes to mind once you read their stats is: Given the interesting differences in the wargear of the Ridgerunner, lets breakdown how a squad of three will fair against two common target profiles in the game: a Redemptor dreadnought and Blightlord Terminators. This represents typical hard to kill vehicles and elite infantry units, both with the all too common -1 damage. This will help us understand how variability vs. dependability will fare out when it really matters in a game with these weapons.
