About this deal

Read this guide to learn everything you need to know about what causes dropsy and how to treat and prevent it. What Is Dropsy? Just because you have effective medications on your side doesn’t mean that you can do away with caring for the fish. In fact, many diseases and infections can be prevented with proper care and maintenance. I used API PROPER pH™ and my water has gone very cloudy. Is this normal, and is the cloudiness safe for my fish? API ACCU-CLEAR water clarifier can be dosed again after 24 hours. However, further doses should not be added after this, as repeated doses will actually make cloudiness worse. API ACCU-CLEAR water clarifier can be dosed once a week as a routine treatment to help keep water clear, but if cloudiness persists, you may want to perform a 25% water change.

API MELAFIX fish remedy is a treatment for external bacterial infections in fish, such as fin rot or open wounds. Melafix should not be mixed with ich treatments and will require several large water changes and at least 7 days after the ichs’ last medication dose before it’s safe to use melafix again in the tank. Should API POND ALGAEFIX™ algae control and ECOFIX™ bacterial cleaner be used at the same time, or should the sludge remover be added after all the API ALGAEFIX algae control are completed?Keep adding Melafix and Pimafix daily until you no longer see any visible signs of the disease you are trying to treat. After every 7th day of dosage, you should also keep doing a 25% water change. No, phosphate buffers combine with essential trace elements, like iron, causing nutrient deficiencies. PROPER pH™ 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5 should not be used in aquariums where algal growth is desirable. Carbonate hardness, also known as “alkalinity” and “KH,” is the level of bicarbonate and carbonate ions in water. The KH level is also a measurement of water’s ability to resist pH change. API PROPER pH 8.2 contains bicarbonate and carbonate buffers, and will directly increase carbonate hardness. API PROPER pH 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5 contain no carbonate hardness, but will cause a spike in KH as measured with KH test kits. These kits work by acidifying the water in the test tube, drop by drop, with a test reagent. When the water sample is adequately acidified, a color change occurs in the test tube. This is called the “end point.” The number of drops of test reagent required to acidify the sample (causing a color change) indicates the level of KH. Phosphate buffers strongly resist pH change, and will be measured just like bicarbonate and carbonate buffers. Therefore, API PROPER pH 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5, will cause an increase in KH measurements. Many disease symptoms will be clearly visible, such as white streaks, lesions, protruding eyes, and other unusual marks or spots on your fish. If you suspect your fish has a disease, it will fall under the categories of fungal, parasitic, or bacterial. One way to diagnose is by matching fish symptoms to the description of a wide range of API fish remedies, which include treatments specific to Ich disease, Betta fish, and various common symptoms (hole-in-the-head, eye cloud, fin & tail rot, etc.). Melafix, Primafix, and the combination thereof are perfectly fine for use with snails and shrimp and other crustaceans and mollusks in the tank.

A better treatment for ich is to increase the temperature and addition of aquarium salts. Doses for this are out of scope for this article as it’s a complicated topic and each fish has its own unique needs. Can it be used for fin rot? API® POND PIMAFIX fish remedy contains an all-natural formula that rapidly treats fungal infections on the body and fins of your pond fish, in addition to treating internal and external bacterial infections. This product can be used in combination with POND MELAFIX™ fish remedy to enhance effectiveness against certain fish diseases. People claim to have had issues with other passive medication API products such as Melafix and Primafix on fish that contain a labyrinth organ to breathe with. Do they stay at the top of the water or appear to be gasping to air, Or otherwise uncomfortable since the addition of the melafix? Can I use API SALTWATER MASTER TEST KIT for reef aquariums (as opposed to API REEF MASTER TEST KIT)?Melafix, which is pretty similar to Pimafix, is generally prepared from different species of tea trees, which is generally administered to freshwater and saltwater aquarium fish. It helps them fight off various gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infections, which may cause: Finally, you’ll need to use an aquarium vacuum to get rid of accumulated fish waste, uneaten food, rotting plant matter, and general detritus. Organic waste gradually degrades, producing toxins that will pollute the water and place a heavier burden on your filtration system. Pay particular attention to areas underneath decorations, around plant bases, and beneath internal filtration boxes. Avoid Overcrowding Your Aquarium
