About this deal

The owners and administrators of SCSM may disclose user information to government authorities at their discretion or when required by law. That's the message that faith and rights leaders sent in a Monday letter to U.S. President Joe Biden and members of Congress ahead of the anniversary of Bloody Sunday—when white police officers violently assaulted civil rights advocates, including future Congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.), as they marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Alabama on March 7, 1965. Those of us who are planning to be in Selma to honor the struggle for voting rights and economic justice should be willing to protest and engage nonviolently if politicians attempt to do moral harm to the memory and the sacredness of what happened on Bloody Sunday," declares the letter. "This is no time for foolishness, photo-ops, and flaky commitments." The name MARION connects us to a tradition of uniquely, memorably named arts organisations that have carved out powerful roles in the ACT region. Changing the name and branding of our organisation is an important step in this transformation. It marks our independence and commitment to quality in our field beyond any customary comparison with other state and territory Writers Centres. Implementing a name change is one of several actions which redefine and assert the organisation’s integrity into the future. Highlighting research that shows tens of millions of Americans face some form of voter suppression, the letter leaders argue that if Biden and other politicians plan to visit Selma—which was recently devastated by a tornado—for the Bloody Sunday anniversary, they should "declare that the fight for voting rights and the restoration of what they marched across that bridge for is not over."

u201cAhead of the 58th anniv. of Bloody Sunday, @brepairers is joined in this call by Rev. Liz Theoharis @liztheo, Hank Sanders, Faya Rose Toure, Rev. Mark Thompson @ministter, Rebecca Marion, Board Chair, Bridge Crossing Jubilee, Rev. Carolyn Foster of the @AlabamaPPC, and others.\u201d — Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II (@Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II) Let us be clear: To honor the memory of Bloody Sunday is to work for the full restoration of the Voting Rights Act, the passage of the original For the People Act that John Lewis helped to write, not the bill that was watered down by Joe Manchin," the letter continues, calling out the pro-filibuster West Virginia Democrat infamous for thwarting his own party's agenda. The new board is indeed a success and probably very few people will want to stay just on or return to the old board but as scb states I too still don’t understand what some posters there stand to gain from wanting this place closed down, it will make no difference to them or the new board, we are just enjoying our own company and once Boardhost folds so will we from posting. Members may not use SCSM to abuse any other member of the forum. Any abuse may be dealt in the form of a ban from the forum.

I did have a go working the new board and for me it wasn’t good and I dislike the format intensely. Re: Why did we go out with a defensive formation against the bottom team - Bryn 25/10/2023, 12:13 am I would suggest many of the old guard are very angry you guys for unilaterally closing the other board irrelevant of your reasoning, at this moment in time it wasn’t forced on you by Boardhost. It’s our opinion, and even if some don’t like it or understand it they shouldn’t criticise it or make fun of it as has on occasions happened. I am highly supportive of Marion/ in the organisation’s efforts to better focus its support for local writers. This is a critical organisation for the support, coordination, collaboration, promotion and advancement of authors and poets in the Canberra region. I am encouraged by the plan developed by the executive and board to professionalise its services, with a greater emphasis on taking writers who have begun to establish themselves to the next level. I support the name change to Marion to better reflect this change in emphasis.” - CHRIS HAMMER The media will play a profound role in the Voice referendum, but are they up to it?, Rachel Perkins, Crikey, 25 August 2023

SCSM is not to be used to "spam" others. "Spam" includes identical and irrelevant submissions posted repeatedly on the same or multiple message boards, and often includes a misrepresentation of the source of what is posted. The owners and administrators of SCSM may ban any user, at any time, without notice, for spamming or otherwise posting unwelcome messages on the message board. Ms Mutton said “It’s an honour to take the helm following the tenure of MARION’s former CEO Meg Wilson who has been such a positive force for elevating our sector. I feel privileged to continue this work, supporting opportunities for our region’s writers and nurturing a landscape in which creative experimentation can thrive and new and exciting partnerships can develop.” On Friday 18 November 2022 we held a special member only event to celebrate and launch the future of this organisation. We have seen great change in the needs of writers as artists. Our region and our writers are not static. In representing ourselves anew we turn toward language that reflects our liberated vision for the next quarter-century.
