About this deal

Platforms: Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows Time hasn’t been kind to Matt “Max” Kazan’s Source engine mod that became entirely its own thing, but this free FPS is still a lot of fun with friends. Ammo is scarce, so expect to be squabbling with your teammates as the undead hordes close in. It’s also one of the best free games on PC, no microtransactions or anything. And while it’s been in Early Access for perhaps too long at this point following a 2018 release, the small team at Gamepires are adding new content and mechanics fairly regularly. Better try it out before everyone gets obsessed with it again at 1.0.

Featuring customisable scenarios (regular or fast zombies, for one) and realistic mechanics brought on by this little thing called the end of the world, Project Zomboid takes a hard look at how hard it would be survive when there’s nothing but death all around. Currently in Early Access at this time of writing, The Infected holds a lot of promise, especially considering it’s the work of one guy. While the crafting could probably do with a lot more polish and the AI needs some improving, this is an open world sandbox worth at least trying out if you want a zombie survival game off the beaten path. Doomed from the moment it landed on the Wii U, Zombi U found a second life on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015 while sacrificing its more intuitive gameplay mechanics. Whichever version you play, however, expect to experience one of the most underrated and understated horror games of the last decade. This franchise is legendary for a reason and I highly recommend playing through this collection. The story is interesting, the puzzles present a decent challenge and the combat is a lot of fun, too. What’s not to love? Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville Complete Edition This game is emotional, and has some incredible performances from everyone involved. I think it’s fair to say that this title contains some of the best voice acting on the Nintendo Switch, and it’s matched by some brilliant graphics and a decent technical performance too. It’s a masterclass in storytelling, showing that you don’t have to write a space opera for people to pay attention. Role-playing game with turn-based combat set in the fictional town of Splendid, Texas. Players must defend their shelter while foraging for supplies and recruiting survivors. [40] Gory light gun Arcade games on rails which feature numerous zombies. [52] It is credited with introducing fast running zombies. [5]

By no means the most mature or accomplished zombie game on this list, Dead Nation claims a deserved place because of one very simple factor. Fun. For all the dark, emotionally manipulative titles that make up the subgenre, sometimes you just need to shoot some zombies lots and lots of times. From a top-down perspective, the player must make their way through an endless, vertically scrolling maze filled with zombies. Most people likely know Fortnite from its PVP spin-off battle royale mode, but there’s plenty to like about its PVE move as well, Save The World. It has a far bigger emphasis on building than the BR mode, so if you find yourself building leviathan structures more than you do shooting enemies, you may as well try out what else Fortnite has to offer instead. Plus, the zombies are kind of weirdly adorable. This title is an updated port of an older zombie game that I think works wonderfully on the Nintendo Switch. Zombie Driver is a chaotic, goofy and fast-paced game with plenty of gore and carnage.World War Z wasn’t just a hit movie (starring Brad Pitt, who is not in the game just so you know), but also a hit title that had over 15 million players trying it out. World War Z: Aftermath is the next part of that franchise, and encourages you to team up to take the zombie menace down.

This game is a must-have for any puzzle game fans or people looking for a casual zombie experience. It’s not the most intense game on the market by any means, but it’s a lot of fun and provides heaps of content to keep players busy for hours on end.

The Call of Duty games are very much to blame for a LOT of things. And while they aren’t to blame for putting zombies into video games, their Zombies Mode is very much something that is expected across the various titles, and other franchises have tried to mimic that as well. In Zombie Night Terror, you’ll have to control an ever-growing horde of the undead to work your way through different levels and puzzles. You can infect new people and use special skills to interact with the puzzles, like making specific zombies explode. Each stage has different requirements, and it progresses in difficulty nicely. My bias as a Resident Evil nerd might be showing a little in this article, but it felt wrong leaving the Resident Evil: Origins Collection out of this list. This collection features both the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0.

Try to tell me that the sight of a Witch still doesn’t fill you with dread and I will call you a liar. This and the original are proof that even before Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics/51 Worldwide Games, NDcube can produce quality titles and that perhaps they’re at their best when not tied down to the preconceived expectations that come with taking the reins of an already established series (Mario Party) and creating something original or expanding a franchise without many sequels. A sequel is in the works and looks quite lovely, upgrading the experience to Unreal Engine 4. Watch out for it over the next couple of years. Have to say that they missed out on an opportunity to call it No More Room In Hell 2 Dead 2 Furious: Electric Boogaloo, though. Much like other games on this list, Miscreated features base-building, PVP, and the need to always keep yourself fed and hydrated. However, thanks to mass radiation, the zombies themselves (even if the game calls them mutants) are far more than just lumbering goons — Umbrella would be proud of some of the ghouls on offer here. The massive scale and scope of the game has led to claims of needing 500 hours to get everything done. Add to that the parkour and weapons crafting elements and you have a deep zombie experience on your hands. #2 Resident Evil Village Resident Evil is a household name when it comes to battling the undead, and it wouldn’t have been a complete list of Switch zombie games without the Resident Evil: Revelations Collection. Vehicular combat game featuring six arenas filled with zombies, players control drivers who must either defeat zombies or other drivers, dependent on which level is being played. [14] From there came Left 4 Dead, a beloved co-op shooter that can’t count to three, as well as the likes of The Last of Us, Telltale’s The Walking Dead, and many, many more. The rise of zombies at the movies also seemed to herald their surge in popularity on home consoles, leading to it being perhaps the most regularly used form of horror today.
