About this deal

Therapy Dogs Nationwide is a national charity where visiting volunteers take their own dogs into establishments to provide comfort, distraction, and stimulation. We regularly visit local hospitals and hospices where patients and staff interact with our dogs and look forward to their visits. If you don’t live in the catchment area for one of our animal hospitals or pet care clinics, we may be able to help with veterinary costs if you are struggling through our Veterinary Care Fund. The latter parts of the book, OH NO. OH NO. I was just crying at that moment. I don’t want to spoil it and the ending of the book made me smile again, but for a bit of the book I was just in tears. This is a really nice story with lively illustrations. The story rhymes beautifully, and the story is engaging and makes us smile.

Our team is currently receiving a lot of calls so please bear with us if you cannot get through and try again. We will answer your call as soon as possible. Am I eligible? We would like to thank members of the local community for their patience and support whilst we were in attendance at this incident.” My real breakthrough was The Gruffalo, again illustrated by Axel. We work separately – he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow – but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes. Pets As Therapy, a national charity founded in 1983, relies on its many volunteers who, along with their well-behaved dogs, make regular visits to nursing homes, hospitals, hospices and day care centres. The volunteers spend time with patients, residents or visitors, allowing them to stroke the PAT Dog and enjoy some companionship. The stunning illustrations show the range of children in the ward; a bored teenager, a child without hair, kids on crutches or bed bound, children in wheelchairs, kids who are unsure or unhappy, and Dot visits each helping in some way to make them smile. In new four-part series The Dog Hospital with Graeme Hall, he gains exclusive access to Willows Hospital in Solihull, one of Britain’s busiest and most advanced veterinary hospitals.

Pets As Therapy do their best to match up volunteers with an establishment that is close to their home, so it’ll be convenient and easy to travel to. But it’s nice to build up a rapport with patients and visit on a regular basis. Feb 25 2021 The hospital dog by Julia Donaldson. Illus. by Sara Ogilvie Macmillan Children's Books, 2020. ISBN: 9781509868315. (Age: 4+) Highly recommended. I have to say that I loved the Dutch names (Fiet (dog) and Wil (owner)), but now I see the English names and I just think those are WAY more fitting and WAY more lovely.

Julia Donaldson Press Reviews

This is the charming story of Dot the dalmatian, a very special dog indeed. Instead of the normal visits to the park, Dot accompanies her lovely owner Rose to the hospital to soothe and entertain the children, babies, parents, doctors and nurses who are there. She even learns how to sign hello to Joe, a boy who is deaf. I read this book in Dutch but will be writing my review in English. This was just so heartwarming and lovely and now I want a dog even more. XD After their breakfast and a swim in the sea, Dot and her owner Rose jump on the bus to the hospital. Dot loves visiting the children of Wallaby Ward and they’re always pleased to see her too; from a crying baby to a bored teenager – a pat, a stroke and a cuddle with Dot cheers everyone up. But the work of the hospital dog doesn’t stop there and when one of her patients is in trouble, it’s up to Dot to save the day! Our dogs have also shown to help with special needs and autistic children and adults by giving focus and providing a calming environment. The series also explores the emotional journey of Akasha, a 10-year-old diabetic Husky who suddenly went blind. Graeme joins her distraught owners during a consultation, learning about the cause of her blindness. Later, he observes a precision surgery aimed at restoring Akasha’s eyesight, understanding the high stakes involved and the potential life-changing impact of the procedure.

Graeme Hall said: “I’ve been privileged to follow highly skilled specialists behind the scenes at one of the country’s top veterinary hospitals recently, as they give hope to some very poorly dogs and their worried owners. It’s been an amazing experience and I can’t wait to share it with Channel 5 viewers.” Această minunată cățelușă este cea care le readuce zâmbetul pe buze copiilor din secția de Pediatrie. Zilnic frecventează spitalul împreună cu stăpâna sa, Roza. If you’re interested in becoming a Pets As Therapy volunteer, along with your dog, you can find out more by calling 01494 569130. Or go online to www.petsastherapy.org and complete the relevant application form. Throughout the series, Graeme delves into the heart of Willows Hospital, witnessing cutting-edge procedures, collaborating with skilled specialists and bearing witness to remarkable recoveries. Our volunteers have the unique privilege of volunteering with their own temperament tested Therapy Dogs; some with over 10 years of experience and always focused on benefiting people in the community.

Written by the brilliant Julia Donaldson and stunningly illustrated by the award-winning Sara Ogilvie, The Hospital Dog is a big-hearted tale about a very special, very brave dog.

The story is about a Dalmatian named Dot and her owner Rose, and focuses on their visits to the hospital routinely. We saw children in “Wallaby Ward”, “most of them happy but some of them bored.” We saw some children being shy, some howled, some being cross, and a teenager scowled. Four-year-old little AJ wants to know why the variety of negative emotions, and we got to talk about some of the reasons why the kids needed to stay in hospital: perhaps they were in pain and not feeling too well? Maybe they missed going outdoor? Funnily enough, I find it harder to write not in verse, though I feel I am now getting the hang of it! My novel THE GIANTS AND THE JONESES is going to be made into a film by the same team who made the Harry Potter movies, and I have written three books of stories about the anarchic PRINCESS MIRROR-BELLE who appears from the mirror and disrupts the life of an otherwise ordinary eight-year-old. I have just finished writing a novel for teenagers.

About Julia Donaldson

The patients in Wallaby Ward are shown in bed, in plaster, with spots, in a wheelchair and with no hair. The illustration of the ward is one of our favourites, it’s bright, colourful and full of visitors and staff as well as patients who are nervous, bored and in pain.
