I enjoyed my first few plays of Stalingrad so thoroughly that I sought out more. That is, in the middle of a 15-scenario campaign, I diverted my attention to trying out Undaunted: Normandy. I needed to contextualize my experience with this particular iteration and work out some thoughts on the system. Campaign or not, Undaunted as a framework is a strong offering. But, while the mechanics themselves are first-rate, the theme of this game is one hell of a tough sell. Undaunted: Stalingrad is a faithful re-creation of the historical battle between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia — a fight that lasted more than five months, and resulted in roughly 2 million combat casualties and hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths. Combatants literally crawled through damaged sewer pipes to beat each other to death with their frozen, empty rifles. Many then starved to death. Stalingrad, 1942. Before you awaits a gruelling conflict in this cornerstone battleground. As the bullets and bombs tear the city asunder, only through wits and valour can you seize the cornerstone of the entire Eastern Front and change the course of history.

Undaunted: Stalingrad is played in a number of scenarios, 15 in the full campaign, played over a section of the 72 tile depiction of an area South of Central Stalingrad around the 9 th January Square. There are many ways the campaign can go before culminating in one of 14 endings.The consequences of the previous combat are then resolved. Depending on casualties taken up to 3 randomly-selected soldier cards will be removed. These are permamently removed from the campaign but do NOT rip them up! This is not a classic Legacy game but one that can be reset for further play. The cards have individual (fictitious) soldier names and these combatants are now gone. They are replaced, however, by Reserves. These new blood have their own identities but will have lesser abilities.

Mi ha intrigato anche se non ho provato ancora nessun undaunted. Unica domanda, ma il sistema di campagna con ricompense e penalizzazioni non porta ad avvantaggiare un giocatore rispetto all'altro e quindi a sbilanciare le missioni successive a scapito dell'altro? una gestione del mazzo intelligente, per cui è il giocatore a decidere cosa rischiare e cosa no, dove intensificare gli sforzi e dove no, quale strategia spingere e quale tralasciare; io volevo iniziare con UN per il solo play, poi in Tana ho letto una discussione che mi ha fatto conoscere Warfighter e ho virato su quello. Devo dire che WF mi sta soddisfando al 110%, però ogni volta che leggo di UN mi attira sempre. Prima o poi...As you might expect from previous Undaunteds, the gameplay is finely tuned, perfectly balanced and appropriately nuanced, and its transposition to an even more epic arena makes Stalingrad feel like the series at its peak, particularly when the unfolding campaign throws some surprises – both narrative and mechanical – at you. This is, without a doubt, one of the most thrilling tabletop gaming experiences of 2022. Our only complaint is, due to its two-player/long campaign nature, it’s not easier to share with more people. Stalingrad, 1942 was a pivotal battle in WWII. For over five months the German forces tried to oust the Soviet Red Army in bitter fighting before finally capitulating after being cut off and surrounded.

Undaunted: Stalingrad gives you the chance to recreate this epic struggle. Can you succeed and change the course of history? Unlike other Legacy games, Undaunted: Stalingrad can be completely reset to the start allowing you to replay the campaign exploring its’ other branches.After the end of the scenario, both commanders write who won in their Scenario book. This will lead them to a Game State which they also record, the new Briefing and the next Scenario. All these numbers should be the same for each player.
