About this deal

The ideas for the book were borne almost 20 years ago, yet it was only 3 years ago when I began my journey in earnest, stealing time during evenings when working away from home, and weekends in and around work and family commitments. The importance of spiritual wayfaring cannot be emphasised enough, particularly in our times where the material realm is emphasised as the only means to human happiness and progress. Let not your tongue mention the shame of another, for you yourself are covered in shame and all men have tongues. I’m writing this review over a month after finishing and currently reading “Reformation of Character”. This guidebook, drawing on the 11th and 12th Century works of the ‘Proof of Islam’ and wondrous sage, Imām Abū Hāmid Al-Ghazālī (RA), can be applied to our busy lives in the modern, hi-tech era, and will prove accessible to people of all ages, all denominations: believers and non-believers alike.

Often we get overwhelmed with feelings that bring out the worst in us and we are unable to move forward and as such, we fall into a downward spiral. Like some sort of charm, he would lift this cheese-and-onion coloured textbook from his pocket on a daily basis to pore over notes which ran the whole gamut of the known medical and surgical world. A handbook of Spiritual Medicine’ is a unique book presented by Ibn Daud regarding medicine for spiritual diseases. After spending some time with this book, I was surprised that a similar format isn’t being more widely adopted as there is a clear gap in the market for a handbook on treating spiritual diseases. Don’t hold back on quality: I’ve tried not to because I want to reach or attract folks that perhaps wouldn’t normally pick up a book or even contemplate reading this kind of material.Open Library is an initiative of the Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Not only does it illustrate the maladies of the human spiritual condition, it recognizes the struggles and insecurities we all succumb to from time to time, and offers up the remedies too. Most illnesses that we have today emanate from diseases of the heart, therefore it’s essential to try and rectify the unseen realms of our hearts and exert maximum efforts in self-purification. This work will enable the reader to self-analyse and assist him or herself in meeting their Creator with a 'sound heart'. Making this science accessible to a new generation is of utmost importance especially in times of a spiritual vacuum.

The antidotes to our ailments are drawn from Qur’ānic verses and authentic ahādīth (Prophetic sayings), inspiring mindfulness of the Almighty Cherisher and His Beloved Prophet. Get up every time you get knocked back:there is good in everything so don’t let ‘bad’ news knock you down. Be consistent:every moment spent writing was in some way contributing to the betterment of myself and hopefully others, this understanding fuelled my passion to continue and allowed me to seal an hour at every opportunity. My journey to writing ‘A Handbook of Spiritual Medicine’ began almost 20 years ago at university, when I stumbled across ‘Purification of the Heart’ by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf Hanson. The ‘Handbook of Spiritual Medicine’ is to be commended as a clear presentation of the science of internal purification in a format which enables easy access to symptoms of spiritual illnesses and their cures.Ibn Daud has presented a fresh exposition of this traditional science in a contemporary format that can be applied to busy lives in the modern, hi-tech era. This guidebook, drawing on the 11th and 12th Century works of the ‘Proof of Islam’ and wondrous sage, Imām Abū Hāmid Al-Ghazālī, can be applied to our busy lives in the modern, hi-tech era, and will prove accessible to people of all ages, all denominations: believers and non-believers alike. Roughly around the same time, towards the end of my MBA studies, I lived with a medic whose particular quirk was to reference the ‘Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine’ with zeal.

Recent events however have allowed me to dedicate more time, and after a long and challenging self-publishing journey, with the help of some very special people (the editing team), including my dear wife and children, and with the duas of my dear mother and the inspiration of my late father, I managed to complete the book during the blessed month of Ramadan, alhamdullilah. Fantastic book mashaAllah; one that every Muslim who’s serious about wanting to purify his/her heart must own. The book offers practical solutions to common problems, problems that if unresolved, could lead to life-long damage to your spiritual health, this dunya and most importantly, your akhirah. It has helped me to understand the Qur'an in much more depth and fallen in love with Islam even more. Al-Quran Al-Kareem Maqdis is a ' word-by-word' translation learning method, where every word and sentence is coloured differently, in Arabic and English. This makes it ideal to keep, if you are feeling ‘envious’, ‘negative’, ‘angry’ or even ‘greedy’ you can focus on the relevant section and check if the symptoms match what you are experiencing and then see the steps you can take to manage the way you are feeling.
