About this deal

Awoken into the nightmare known as Imperium Nihilus, where humanity is beset on all sides by darkness and Chaos is on the rise, even the mighty Lion El’Jonson could not hope to prevail on his own in such a hostile environment.

Flaming Hair: Seraphax's most notable trait is his hair (and half his face) being permanently on fire. The crews of Imperial Navy vessels are the first line of defence in brutal boarding actions, and teams of Breachers punch far above their weight in close confines. The massive Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer is an armoured beast , mounting a triple-barrelled neutron laser battery onto a rugged Spartan hull to create a devastatingly focused anti-tank weapon.

Meanwhile, Zabriel arrives in a beleagured star system to find a pair of Fallen who have taken command of the one still-occupied planet, trying to protect the mortals there. Drama-Preserving Handicap: The Lion's forestwalking is apparently not powerful enough to bring him all the way to Terra. The articlestates that’s not the case – but doesn’t elaborate on how, exactly, thenovel will update the canon. And then there is the literal "Fisher King" who the Lion is told "he did not ask the correct question" at the beginning.

Just Ignore It: The Lion deals with the Ecclesiarchy, the all-encompassing church of the Imperium, by ignoring their existence and refusing to meet with them. Into this darkness, the dread forces of Chaos emerge, destroying all before them, while other malign threats begin to eat away the remains of the Imperium. I'd prefer a plausible scenario with an intelligent Primarch, who sadly miscalculates or goes down a dark path for compelling reasons. There is something quite heart-warming in this as a central theme of the story, a Father trying to find his sons so he can earn back their trust/redeem those who have fallen (or redeem himself to those whom he had wronged depending on perspective), and seeing his interactions with the Fallen and their many different forms was great.

I can’t finish this review without praising the performance of Timothy Watson as the audiobook’s narrator. Lion explores further, coming across a strange building that the Watcher once more warns him away from.It also becomes apparent that this is more about the Lion shaking off his long slumber and getting used to fighting in realspace again.
